Resumen:
The Caatinga has a high biodiversity, nevertheless, is one of the least
studied vegetation and protected in Brazil, and se is in an advanced stage
degradation. Aiming to contribute to future conservation strategies, we performed a
phytosociological survey of the woody component in a Caatinga área in the micro
region of Western Cariri, Paraíba. From February to December 2014 was installed a
portion of a hectare, subdivided into 100 subplots of IOXIOm2. Within the plot were
measured heights and perimeter at ground levei (PNS) of all plants within the
inclusion criteria (NSP à 9 cm). 34 species and 21 families were found. The values
for the total density, basal área and maximum and average height, were respectively
4852 plant / ha 38.5 m2 / ha, 18 and 4m. The species Croton rhamnifolioides Pax &
K. Hoffm. showed higher density, basal área and importance vague index, being the
dominant species in the área.
