Résumé:
The present work had the objective, besides analyzing the statistical dynamics of homicide data in Paraíba, to test some so-called classic variables by the literature that studies violent crime. It was based on a theoretical economic reference for the choice of the socioeconomic variables of the study. Pearson's statistical correlation method was tested, which measures the level of association between two variables, one dependent (homicide rates) and one independent (socioeconomic variable), such level of association. The hypothesis tested was whether socioeconomic indicators have any level of association with homicide rates, as expected in the literature. It was found that levels of unemployment and income concentration are associated with more violence and that education indicators had an inverse effect to the sign expected by the correlation. Therefore, it was proved that these socioeconomic indicators are relevant for the control of violent crime in Paraíba.
