Résumé:
The next Post-Graduation dissertation aims to analyze the changes in the political making in the Gaudêncio family, in the Western Cariri of Paraíba and, being more particular, in the city of Serra Branca, in a change board provoked by the crisis in the latifundio/dwelling system. The decadence of latifundio, which cannot be confused with the large property disappearance, can be associated with the political power loss, in national or state levels, which started during 1980s. In this period, representatives of the Gaudencio Family electoral performance in regional elections were deteriorating, although the group has managed to maintain its predominance at the local levels, even having to face electoral setbacks. The research involved fieldwork in the exploratory phase of researching, when they started to search for informants who could indicate trajectories of the Gaudencio family members in Serra Branca, their production practices, properties and political relations, conduction of interviews with Gaudencio Family members linkeds to political activity and consultation and processing of secondary data of the Superior and Electoral Tribunal; the municipal agriculture secretary and the personal collections or lands of the interviewees. The research reveals the ways in which the members of the Gaudencio Family narrate the changes in the local context and they elaborate, in these narratives, explanations to the permanence and changes in the political making, which allow the continuity of a type of local power which is controlled by the traditional families.
