With the creation of the National Policy for Integrative and Complementary Practices (PNPIC) in May 2006, a new context was opened for the insertion of Integrative and Complementary Practices (PICS) into the Unified Health System (SUS), requiring the The need for approximation and studies during vocational training, so that students can reflect, develop and analyze these resources even during undergraduate studies, being the university extension an excellent opportunity, as it favors a closer relationship between university and community. Objectives: To evaluate the perceptions, difficulties and repercussions that the experiences with PICS provided in the academic and personal lives of students who were extensionists in projects with PICS. Methodology: Qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research, conducted in one of the Federal University Campuses. of Campina Grande with 4 students from the nutrition course, 2 from the pharmacy and 1 from the nursing. The collection was performed through semi-structured interviews and material analyzed by the technique: content analysis. Results and Discussions: The PICS act in caring for themselves, others and us, besides being protagonists of humanized care, adding theoretical and practical knowledge and transforming the personal reality of individuals, however, there are many challenges ahead, such as the lack of dissemination and disbelief of its beneficial effects, hindering the effectiveness of its implementation. Conclusion: It is essential to reflect on the importance of expanding academic spaces for discussion of the theme, qualifying and integrating these practices in the higher education of health students, in the three inseparable spheres of the institution: teaching, extension and research.
