Burnout Syndrome (BS) is known as a occupational stress syndrome that can be defined as "burn out", developed through chronic occupational stress, in three stages consisting in emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and absence. of professional achievement. The present work aims to identify through Brazilian literature the causes and consequences of Burnout Syndrome in professional nurses contained in national scientific journals between 2015 and 2019. The study presents a qualitative approach with an integrative review character.
During the literature search, the keywords “Professional Exhaustion”, “Occupational Health” and “Nursing” were used in a search at the Virtual Health Library (VHL). After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, six articles were selected. It was observed that the main causes of BS are exposure to stress, high workload, interpersonal and social relationships, resulting in mood changes, psychosomatic symptoms, wear and tear, personal relationships and suicide. Through the result of this review, new strategies for prevention, diagnosis, control and care for nursing professionals with BS may be discussed.
