Resumo:
This work aimed to identify the practice of the management of purchases in supermarkets of
Campina Grande as reactive or proactive from the literature of Baily et al (2000). The
methodology used in the study is a descriptive research with technical procedures of case study,
where the data were treated in a qualitative way. A supermarket of local origin was studied, the
second belonging to a national group and the third belonging to a regional group. The methods
used were interview and non-participant observation. The instrument of data collection was the
interview based on a semi-structured form, divided into blocks related to the specific objectives
of the work. The results indicate that the supermarket of local origin does not have a structure
adequate to the team and the function, and that the demand of the sector requires a larger team
for possible division of activities and better performance. The national supermarket has a
shopping team with many professionals and well divided tasks, however working centrally by
regions. The third supermarket has an organized structure with a skilled and experienced team,
but has small errors in its processes and purchasing policy. According to the results presented
in each supermarket, there was a predominance of the reactive approach in the management of
purchases of the supermarkets surveyed.
