Resumen:
Dropping out of tertiary level courses, regardless of training area, is a problem across the country and not just in a single region. Some areas, however, stand out more than others, such as degrees, more specifically the science course. This abandonment has consequences not only for the maintainer, but for the student himself. In the case of a degree in science, this situation is even more alarming considering the lack of professionals in this area. Within this problematic, this research aims to draw the socioeconomic profile and to know the professional expectations about the teaching of students of the second period in the Degree in Biological Sciences of a public institution of Higher Education, located in the city of Cuité, Paraíba, Brazil . The research instrument used was an online questionnaire, composed of multiple choice questions in order to know the socioeconomic profile and the reasons for choosing the course, as well as to analyze their future expectations regarding teaching. This was answered by 22 students, which consisted of profiling data such as gender, age, color / race, place of origin, high school completion, interest in the course, and income. Finally, after analyzing the students' social profiles, it is clear that they are all mostly women, aged 18 to 29, of mixed race / brown color, and persevering in the course even with numerous challenges.
