Literacy, traditionally, is mostly concerned only with fixing and repeating studied syllables without the child perceiving any meaning in this activity. The child needs to actively participate in the literacy process and not do everything mechanically. She needs to understand the nature of the language she speaks, formulate hypotheses and make original productions, in a motivating environment and exposed to the challenges proposed by the literacy teacher. Based on this constructivist line, a practical experience in literacy was carried out. The purpose of this report is to describe the experiences lived during the period from December 13 to January 16, 1991 of a pedagogical didactic action in a literacy class of a State Public School of 1st Degree in this city, to verify its viability and efficiency. The practice consisted of the following steps: Contact with technical administrative staff and teachers; know the general physical aspect of the school; observation period characterization of students. Seminar with teachers to present the work proposal; analysis of the practice experienced in the classroom.
