Résumé:
Sustainability and protection of the environment are themes that have been much discussed in recent decades by environmentalists and defenders of nature due to the exponential growth of degradation of the nature and natural resources. Among these agents that degrade nature is the disposal of direct liquid effluents in the water bodies. The technique used in the research was indirect documentation, which consists of bibliographical research of printed and virtual documents. It was conducted through consultations with books, published articles, periodicals and internet sites. t was possible through this research to problematize the contamination of the water networks through the discharge of liquid effluents, bringing to light that this contamination is a passive environmental crime of punishment with legal basis in the laws in force in Brazil, and also that the agent can be a natural person or legal authors, coauthors or participants in the same event and that the penalties range from simple fines to prison. The problem of the discharge of liquid effluents is a current and worrying issue due to its high degree of contamination of the environment, and especially the contamination of water resources. Water is a finite natural resource and a public good. Studies show that in the near future there will be shortage of potable water in the world, since the way it is treated today is already reflecting in the various sectors due to its scarcity, misuse of people and lack of management by the Public Power.
