Resumo:
In the last few years the mining industries, especially those which process
lime and granite, have been regarded as sources of pollution and/or environmental
contamination due to the great quantities of residues produced and frequently
thrown into the ecosystems without any previous treatment to obliterate or reduce
its harming components. This project aims especially to evaluate the potential use
of residues from lime and granite industrial process of plants in Paraiba and Rio
Grande do Norte to produce alternative ceramic mortars to make bricks and tile.
Physical and mineralogical characterization experiments were carried out
such as: grain analysis, chemical analysis, and raw material X-ray diffraction of the
alternative raw materials in the form of residues and conventional plastic and nonplastic
raw materials. The technical tests to the use in red clay were conducted
according to the methods of SOUZA SANTOS, SLAGE & BAZARGHI and of ABNT
rules.
The results indicated that the studied residues presented physical and
mineralogical features adequate to be used as alternative raw material to make red
clay to produce solid bricks, hollow bricks and tiles.
