Resumo:
This study aims at verifying whether the city of Pombal (Paraiba State, Brazil) is the
best location option for the landfill of the Consortium for Sustainable Development of
Médio Piranhas (CODEMP) from the point of view of transportation costs of solid
wastes. The methodology consisted of developing a simulation model to analyze the
transportation costs of solid wastes by considering the location of the landfill in each
of the 20 cities of CODEMP. Based on the results, it was observed that locating the
landfill facility in Pombal City is the best alternative to minimize costs for the
transportation of wastes from the various cities. Jericó City was found to be the
second best option. The most costly location alternative for the landfill, under a
logistical point of view, would be the city of Coremas. Besides the minimization of
transport costs, it is known that the optimal location of a landfill must be based on
other aspects, such as technical, social and environmental criteria. Thus, it is
expected that this study will be useful for supporting decisions on the optimal location
of CODEMP’s landfill.
