Abstract:
The present dissertation aims to analyze the discursive and non-discursive practices of peripheral visibilities, corporified in freestyle rap battles in the Metropolitan region of Cariri cearense, by subjects from the neighborhoods circumscribed from a dominant imagery of periphery. I present in this work specific elements to the dynamics of innovative interactions of contemporary Hip Hop, the battles of freestyle rap, the product of successive generations of individuals and groups that revitalize this urban culture. Through the participant observation and semi-structured interviews, it was possible to verify symbolic constructions related to the representations of peripheries, reinvented and enrolled from a heterogeneity of interaction practices, body performances and sound-visual effects, which operate reinforcing feelings identifications and belongings shared in groups. Inscribed in the geographically located spaces in the city center of Crato, these peripheral visibility tactics subvert or reiterate the unitary representations of periphery and rap. The results achieved demystify the imagery that circumscribes the "neighborhoods and/or peripheral subjects", such as the productions of "rap" as a homogeneous unit, since the respective symbolic representations are products of social constructions. They are elaborated, triggered and manipulated in the context of rap battles, by agents of their production and consumption that dispute each other to legitimize different perceptions of the world and representations about the survival modes of peripheral bodies in society. It was possible to verify a sense of collective identification with a "racial pride", reinforced in the rituals of rap battles, equally shared by successive generations of Hip Hop producers and consumers in globalized contexts.
