Resumen:
This research aims to investigate and understand how the teaching-learning process of geometric concepts occurs through Problem Solving and how this methodology contributes to a more understanding teaching-learning. Problem Solving is still a little used teaching methodology in class, since it requires time and dedication by teachers, however, promotes the construction of knowledge significantly and a satisfactory teaching of mathemat ics. The teaching of geometry, which has long been set aside, is important not only in the development of mathematical concepts, but also in the development of fundamental skills in our lives, so it is necessary to discuss this. This research is characterized as a qualitative investigation in the pedagogical research modality, in which it presents and is divided into four parts: historical
aspects and the authors' conception of mathematics teaching and learning through Problem
Solving; historical aspects, the importance and possibilities of the teaching of geometry, and we present some research developed in the area; methodological procedures; description and analysis of the results of the application of the geometric problem. Some factors limited moments of resolution of the activity applied to data collection, however, with the help of methods such as the use of GTERP script, mediation-refutation and the use of concrete materials, it was possible to minimize and remedy these limitations. We conclude that teachinglearning through problem solving gives students the autonomy to build their own knowledge, motivating and enhancing learning in geometry teaching, in particular, this methodology enables students to recognize properties, discuss about perceived geometric characteristics and, investigate and substantiate their claims.
