Resumen:
The objective of this scientific article is to analyze the performance of the poultry association (ASA), the Sumé city, regarding the producer/ association relationship and its additions to local development in a case study. The research comprised the study of the activities carried out by ASA from its founding process in the Sumé city until 2017, the resources invested by the municipal government in said activity, as well as to highlight the social and economic impact on the life of the members in the same period , taking into account public development policies. As theoretical bases were presented the basic concepts regarding the third sector, social capital, public policies of local development as well as associativism; notions about the structure and the way the ASA works; and the analysis of the activities carried out in partnership with the municipal government. The data obtained from the year 2004 show that before the founding of the ASA in the Sumé city, there was an increase in the production of hen, as well as, there was also an increase in the income of the families involved in the production process. This is due to the planning carried out by the board of ASA, the application of courses, given by SEBRAE, which trained the members, and the financial resources invested by municipal public power through projects. In general, the results observed showed an efficient application of these resources. In this way, it is possible to affirm that the third sector is an important driver in the scope of the local development processes, providing employment and income generation, mainly for rural producers.
