Résumé:
This research aims to investigate the motivational role of the use of games in mathematics teaching and to identify their potentialities and limitations in the context of the Programa Novo MaisEducação (PNME).The theoretical foundation of this study is based on researchers such as Grando (1995), Kishimoto (1996) and Huizinga (2000), who discuss the use of games in math classrooms as a teaching-learning tool. Research focused on the use of manipulative teaching material in classroom mathematics teaching was also discussed based on Lorenzato (2006), Grando (2000) and Carvalho (1990), among others. This work was developed in the qualitative research modality. The field research was carried out at a municipal school located in the city of Barra de Santa Rosa, in the state of Paraíba, where Programa Novo Mais Educação operates, through observation with students from 6th to 9th grade who were part of the mentioned program. After observing and analyzing the different activities developed in the PNME, we concluded that the use of games in the mathematics classes worked in the PNME proved to be an effective tool to make the classes dynamic and especially to motivate the students to actively participate in the classes that can learn, reinforce and revise mathematical content in a playful way and go beyond the traditional teaching of mathematics.
