Abstract:
The traditional method is one of the factors that hinder the teaching-learning process, causing the student's lack of interest in chemistry, because it can't relate everyday life is this method is centered on the transmission of content and memorization of formulas and concepts. Thus, a research was carried out on the case study method linked to the theme "garbage" as a teaching-learning strategy in chemistry classes. This research had its main objective the development of skills in students of the first year of high school through the case “Organic waste: conscious destiny”. The use of this teaching strategy showed its potential because it encouraged students to read and interpret texts, to seek out-of-class information, enabling them to propose hypotheses during classroom discussions, to work as a team, to argue during the presentation of reports on the solutions found to solve the case, to reflect on the social and environmental implications of the theme involved in the case study.
