Résumé:
This work consists of calibrating and validating the SMAP (Lopes et al., 1982) and Tank (Sugawara, 1979) models for simulating monthly streamflows in Piancó river basin, which is located in Paraíba State, Brazil. In order to calibrateand validate both models, which are classified as conceptual, lumped and deterministic, it was used rainfall, potential evaporation and average monthly streamflows datafrom 1964 to 1988. Theparameters of the modelswere automatically calibrated using genetic algorithms. The calibration results, considering the Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient (NASH), were 0.73 and 0.60 for SMAP and TankModel, respectively. The NASH coefficient was equal to 0.69 for the validation data set using SMAP and 0.45 with TankModel. Taking into consideration the superiority of SMAP over TANK model for simulating monthly streamflows inPiancóriver, we expect this study may serve as a support for a better water resources management in semiarid regions.
