Resumo:
Given that practices that hurt the environment have generated pressures from society because of the signs of overload that the planet has been indicating, companies are seeking to adapt to new changes even by competitive factors. Given this reality, this work aims to investigate the environmental management practices in restaurants in the city of Sousa - PB. Specifically, it intends to: identify the environmental management practices used by the companies, raise possible nonconformities in the handling, treatment and final destination of the local garbage. The research was carried out in a descriptive way and the instrument of data collection was adapted by means of a questionnaire, where the data were treated through a qualitative approach. The results of the research identified that companies adopt some practices to mitigate environmental impacts resulting from their activities, but do not obtain any product certification, no environmental management system, managers do not perform internal environmental audit, there is no selective waste collection and environmental standards. To make a greater contribution, it is important for companies to partner with suppliers and producers in the region and with local public authorities to assist in the selective collection and awareness of society in relation to practices harmful to the environment.
