Resumen:
The population growth combined with consumerism triggers a series of environmental impacts. The increase in production and consumption have resulted in increased generation of solid wastes, which have been improperly disposed in the environment. In 2010, in an attempt to minimize this problem, it was instituted the Brazilian Solid Waste Policy, which provides rules for the management of waste from its generation to its final destination. This study aimed at optimizing the waste collection in the City of Pombal-PB, Brazil, in order to seek a reduction for city expenses on waste transportation. The basic methodology consisted of searching information on the waste collection routes currently held in the city of Pombal. After that, we used the Chinese Postman Problem method to optimize the waste collection route. From the findings, we observed failures in the current collection and provided an optimized route for a study area in Pombal City.
