Abstract:
The present work aimed at the development and characterization of rings
biodegradable of chitosan/promestrieno. The rings were produced using the weaving
technique with multifilament wires (3 twisted wires). The threads with/without drugs
were obtained by extrusion and immersion in coagulant solution, followed by washing
and drying of the threads, for subsequent ring weaving. After obtaining the rings, they
were characterized by the techniques of Biodegradation, Optical Microscopy (MO),
Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Conductivity, Hydrogen Potential
Assessment, Degree of Swelling, Tensile Strength and Thermogravimetry. In
Biodegradation, the samples submitted to the acid test showed a greater mass loss
as a function of time, in contrast to the samples submitted to biodegradation in the
solution of PBS, and PBS with lysozyme. In the analyzes of MO the samples were
dense, smooth and without the presence of pores, but after 21 days of
biodegradation test. The FTIR showed the characteristic vibrations of the materials
and confirmed the incorporation of the drug in the chitosan polymer matrix. In the
conductivity and pH results over 21 days of biodegradation assay, distinct steps were
observed that revealed the process of matrix degradation and drug release. In the
tensile strength test, the use of the weaving technique and the addition of drug in the
matrix allowed improvements in the mechanical properties of the rings. In
thermogravimetry, the mass loss in the rings with/without drug up to 200 ° C is linked
to the evaporation of water in the samples. In general, the rings have potential as
estrogen replacement therapy; however, further tests are needed to confirm the use
of the device in the controlled release of promestriene.
