Résumé:
Profitability analysis enables the study of the company's economic and financial
performance by considering return on investment and profit on sales. The main
profitability ratios are return on equity, return on total assets and return on investment.
The financial crisis of 2008 had negative consequences for the economy of several
countries, such as a reduction in production, exports and imports and a drop in stock
prices. Due to these reflexes, also felt in Brazil, this article analyzes the economic
performance of the Oil, Gas and Biofuels sector based on the return on total assets
indicator. For this, a descriptive research with quantitative was made. We analyzed 10
companies in the sector, listed on the BOVESPA between 2007 and 2018. According to
the results, despite the return on total assets fluctuating greatly, most companies
obtained a positive result. Therefore, despite the global economic crisis, the sector was
able to obtain favorable ROA for most of the period studied.
