Resumo:
The entry mode choice is critical to the enterprise internationalization process. Attempting to
achieve further comprehension of the factors influencing this process researchers utilized
presumptions based on the assumptions taken by the Transaction Cost Theory to try’n justify
the choice made. Thus, the objective of this research was analyze the mode entry choice of the
bigger northeastern refined metal metal firm that’s based in the city of Maceió in the state of
Alagoas, through the perspective of the Transaction Cost Theory. Regarding the paper’s
methodologic aspects it is a qualitative and descriptive single case study. The data gathered was
obtained from three sources, those being: semi structured interviews, participant observation
and documental analysis. The analysis of the data assembled was conceived throughout a
saturation method, in which all data collected is looked over through and through until the
results are consistent enough. The results suggest that the 5 presumptions, born based on TCT,
have a fair success explaining the influence of the proposed factors on the entry mode choice
of the studied firm. The presumptions that had a bigger impact on the choice were: transaction
cost; legal restrictions to foreign country entry and asset specificity. The other ones don’t
specifically have great influence on the given case. This study grants better understanding to
the enterprise’s entry mode choice and bring a new perspective to the theory, which in this case
is applied to a commodities retail based on a developing country
