Abstract

The present study deals with the ethical-political project of Social Work and the main challenges posed to its materialization in the daily work of the social worker inserted within the Social Assistance policy in the municipality of Sousa. It is a study proposal that emerged from discussions raised by the disciplines of historical and theoretical-methodological foundations of Social Work, added to the insertion in the supervised stage within the ambit of Social Assistance policy in said municipality. These factors sharpened interest in the subject and strengthened the construction of this investigative study, in which we started from the construction of the object of study and rescued its socio-historical constitution. The professional project was born out of the societal transformations engendered by the economic, political, social and cultural peculiarities that permeated the Brazilian reality, imprinting singularities to the process of Renewal of Social Service in the country, emphasized the commitment to the construction of a new corporate order, egalitarian, democratic and freedom-oriented as the central ethical value. The study was based on qualitative research of an exploratory nature, whose interviewees were eight social workers who work in the Social Assistance policy of the city of Sousa, Brazil, aiming at apprehending and problematizing how they understand and materialize the ethical project -policy of Social Service in the daily life of their professional work. The data collection was done through interviews of a structured nature, using as method: the critic-dialectic, in view of the unveiling of the real in its multiple determinations, transcending its phenomenal aspects. The result of the research revealed that there is a relative understanding of the professional project of Social Work by most of the social workers interviewed and pointed out the main challenges put to its materialization in the daily practice of the professional practice.
