Resumo:
The purpose of this study was to discuss the role of the social worker in the
Psychosocial Care Center (CAPS) in the city of. Brazil, but the study was motivated
by the observations made in the field of psychosocial care. stage of the said space,
referring to the questioning about the competencies and professional assignments of
the social worker in that institution. Mental health in Brazil was historically treated
through the stigmatization and institutionalization of madness, thus understanding
that the entrapment of people with mental disorders contributed to the adjustment of
the social order, where this situation began to change from the advent of the
Reformation Sanitary and, in parallel, the Psychiatric Reform, in which both proposed
new interventions to the treatment of people with mental disorders, in addition to
questioning the current asylum model in that context. These events are considered
essential in the fight against anti-asylum and democratization of access to health.
The specific objectives are to understand the history of mental health policy in Brazil,
as well as to identify aspects that interfere with the work of the mental health
professional and to reveal, from the perspective of the social worker, the possibilities
and perspectives for the effective realization of the rights of mental health
professionals, the users who are served at the CAPS I in the city of São João do Rio
do Peixe - Paraíba. For the construction of this study, we are based on the criticaldialectical
method, because it captures the multiple determinations of the object and
in its methodological path involves a qualitative approach and the elaboration of a
semi-structured interview script, which was used to interview an assistant of the
aforementioned institution. The result of the research reveals that there is a relative
understanding of the professional about mental health policy, more particularly in his
work environment, since, we can identify that the contemporary scenario presents
challenges that make difficult the professional work in that institution, and the need to
devise strategies to meet such demands.
