This monograph has two main places of discussion which are: citizenship and the formation of
Geography teachers. Thus, in our research it aims to. analyze the
Geography teacher training at the Teacher Training Center,
Federal University of Campina Grande, on the Cajazeiras campus - PB, with the objective of
endorses the citizen dimension of this process. For this, we made a historic trajectory
introductory about the concept of citizenship, starting from Antiquity until reaching the days
current. We discussed some historical aspects of the formation of the geography teacher and,
we analyze the perception of the students of that course on citizenship, taking as a reference
teaching practice. To this end, 37 students from the Geography Degree Course were heard
(CFP / UFCG), with 25 in the second and 12 in the eighth period. For the development of our
analysis we start from a discursive perspective, with a view to establishing a
debate on the questions that guide the formation of the geography teacher and the dimension
involved in this process. In addition, we use the qualitative approach, research
bibliography, field research (application of questionnaires) and documentary research.
Thus, we can affirm that the students of the course have the basic notion of citizenship and that
Geography course at the Teacher Training Center, Federal University of
Campina Grande, Campus of Cajazeiras - PB contributes to the citizen training of students,
future teachers, but it is still necessary to discuss some issues related to the practices and
experiences related to citizenship. Therefore, we present our reflections in order to
contribute to a Geography teacher training that seeks the articulation between theory and
practices so that students (future teachers) can be reflective teachers, citizens
critical, active and participatory, so that they can collaborate in the transformation process in
social reality of the students of Basic Education, contributing to the citizen training of their
students, in the search for the realization of a more egalitarian, fair and democratic society.
