Resumen:
This research aimed to analyze the representations from students of Middle School of "Escola
Municipal de Ensino Infantil e Fundamental Jose Dias Guarita", located on the city of Monte
Horebe - PB, considering that it will indicate the relation between the students with the biome
that they are inserted. For the concretization of the objective of this work, the methodology
was organized from the following procedures: 1 - Theoretical reflections considering to
comprehend the specificities of the Caatinga Biome, as the theoretical bases that guide the
discussion about the social representations from the drawings; 2 - We have requested the
confection of 40 drawings from the students from the 7t h grade "B" and "C" classes of the
Middle School of the referred school, intending to analyze how those drawings represented
the biome of caatinga and i f there was a sense of ambiental preservation on them; 3 - We
have analyzed the drawings having as reference the elements which were represented, aiming
the organization of those elements in themes: I) The drought period in the Caatinga; II) The
rainy period in the Caatinga. After the emergence of the themes, two new subthemes have
appeared: natural landscape and humanized landscape in the Caatinga, which when analyzed
helped to comprehend the values assigned by the subjects envolved with the biodiversity of
the Biome, considering the differences related to age, gender, previous knowledge and the
values represented by them in relation to the Caatinga. Therefore, when the representations
are analyzed, it was observed that there are no significative differences related to age, because
the students are in the same age group. When it comes to gender, the differences are quite
significant, because the boys represent the Caatinga with a larger abundance of details than
the girls. In this way, it is suggested that these students possess knowledge related to the
Biome, however, there is no sense of ambiental preservation, in the representations, which
points to the necessity for treatment of the ambiental issues inside the classroom, which
would contribute to the construction of notions related to the Ambiental Education, a
necessary element to these juvenile people.
