Résumé:
Throughout Brazilian History, we can find analytical variations related to the concept of
coronelismo, including the origin, top and decline of political practices considered
"coronelisticas", investigated by several authors. Such variations end up attributing
characteristics that associate the concept of coronelismo to current political practices,
which allows comparisons between them. In these discourses, Brazilian Northeast is the
space where practices considered "coronelisticas" will establish and maintain its
perpetuation; it happens because this region was instituted under backwardness. Paraiba
fits in this context, so this paper intends to problematize power relations considered
"coronelisticas" of the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century in this
State; its goal is verifying, through the analysis of discourses, the way that reference to
practices which are "coronelisticas" happenned in the State of Paraiba during this
period, which is considered mostly as a moment of institution and consolidation of such
power relations.
