Resumo:
Iron deficiency anemia is a physiological change that occurs frequently during pregnancy as a
result of increased uptake maternal-fetal nutrition, when the hemoglobin is equal to or less
than 11 g / dl due mainly to inadequate intake and / or restricted nutrient. This study aimed to
investigate their perception of pregnant women with anemia, some nursing care, with regard
to preventive measures and treatment of this disease in Units of Family Health in the city of
Cajazeiras - PB, identifying the steps taken by pregnant women guided in the prevention and
treatment, based on the recommendations of the nurse as well as assessing the degree of
satisfaction regarding the same activities in the prenatal care. The research method adopted as
a descriptive field study, with a qualitative approach. The sample consisted of 15 pregnant
women with iron deficiency anemia, who make regular prenatal, selected from the
observation of the perinatal file. Data were collected in November 2009 through a roadmap
for semi-structured interview consisting of objective questions relating to socio-demographic
data of the interviewees and subjective issues related to specific research data, while
respecting the ethical aspects of research with humans. The results revealed that most women
are unmarried, under twenty years, with low education, home and have low family income,
concluding that prevalence is directly related to socio-economic conditions of the pregnant
woman. There was also failure of the health professional in the transfer of guidelines that
determine the severity of anemia during pregnancy in the implementation of educational
activities, as well as a lack of knowledge on the part of women about the significance of iron
deficiency anemia. Through this study, it may be seen that although the nurses act in a
consistent way with the actions recommended by the MS, it is necessary to increase the
quality of care through ongoing activities of health education as meetings and lectures, to
inform and clarify doubts, make pregnant women aware of the importance of ferrous sulphate,
encourage changes in attitudes regarding dietary habits, and encourage the practice of nursing
care in a holistic manner.
