Résumé:
The purpose of this research is to understand the meaning of democracy in Brazil with a view to
presidentialism of the last twentieth century, considering that in this historical period, the
idea of democracy is intrinsically linked to the posture of the Brazilian citizen, I will be
problematizing the nuances that surround this understanding of democracy, without
above all the significance of the historical concept of democracy in relation to its origin, in the
Classic period. When this is done, I will be referring to my chronological cut,
bringing a problematization about the importance of the vote, which refutes a reflection on
the essential rights of the citizen, especially for having as object the democracy of a State
Democratic Right. This research is part of the Political History, and is based on
within the key concept, which is democracy, will be realized from the analysis of the sources that
will be the magazines Veja and IstoE and the bibliographic discussion, using History as methodology
of Speeches and Bibliographic Research. In short, this study intends to bring an overview
of the political and social scenario, which became evident in Brazil in the 1990s.
