Resumo:
The Human Milk is the unique natural food, necessary to the completely growth and
development of the newborn until six months of life. Therefore, the service realized by the
human Milk Bank, is of the extreme importance for several children in special situations, in
which their mothers do not have conditions to produce and/ or offer them this food. With the
objective of understanding the experience of the Human Milk Bank donors in the city
Cajazeiras - PB. For both, became necessary to describe their socio-demographic profile;
examine their motives of the choosing to become a donor; know the assistance offered to
deponents in the process of donating maternal milk and identify the facilities and difficulties
for donation. Therefore is characterize as an exploratory and descriptive study, qualitative
approach, developed in a Human Milk Bank in the city of Cajazeiras - Paraiba and/or in the
residencies of 20 donors through an interview guide with semi-structured questions, which
were answered in the months of January and February 2013, after signing consent term. The
results were compiled and organized by the technique of content analysis and analyzed
according to the literature. The research followed the Resolution 196/96 of the National
Health. Most of them were single donors, with secondary highschool incomplete, low family
income and were in the age group 17-40 years old. The principal motive of the choosing to
become donor was the desire to help others, however, the majority was not aware of the
services offered by the Bank of Milk, being influenced by the professionals of the institution
and sensitized by the experience with other mothers, which for specific reasons, could not
feed your child. Most praised the service provided by the professionals, but emerged some
criticisms and responses unsafe. Despite of the facilities found in the service, there were
reports of personal difficulties for the donation as, for example, diseases, pain in the hands by
the action of weaning and the presence of mastitis. Despite the approval and recognition, by
the nursing mothers, of the services offered by the institution, the human milk donated is still
low, because despite increased of the donors, is still not enough for the demand of the city. It
is necessary to continue actions aimed at attracting new donors, as a way to encourage
breastfeeding.
