This work was developed with the purpose of overcoming the difficulties inherent to the reading process. Objective of this work is to highlight the importance of reading for the student's citizen formation. Reflect on the reading process experienced at school and also identify the social meaning of reading for the student. Finally, it is intended to analyze teaching practices in relation to the training of student readers and the didactic resources used in the process of developing reading. This research was carried out at the Joaquim Pereira Lima Municipal Elementary School, in the municipality of São José De Piranhas- PB. The methodological part corresponding to the technical procedures used to obtain the necessary data for the development of the research, then we carry out an action research, as it is directly linked to the study objective. It is essential that students can experience situations in school where reading is directly linked to pleasure and meeting everyday needs. We understand that reading must go beyond the classroom wing, it must incorporate new reading habits, since nowadays there are several types, therefore, reading is of great importance for people's lives, that is why it is a the indispensable activities developed by teachers for the training of students, as one of the fundamental elements for the exercise of citizenship.
