Resumen:
Childcare, a pediatric aria focused mainly on aspects of prevention and health promotion, acts to keep children healthy to ensure their full development so that they reach adulthood without unfavorable influences and problems brought on from childhood. Its basic objectives include the promotion of child health, disease prevention and education of children and their families, through advance guidance on the risks of health problems. The child must be assisted in Family Health units by a multiprofessional team, with the nurse being the main responsible for this activity. This study sought to investigate the practice of childcare in the perception of nurses in the Family Health Strategy. This is an exploratory-descriptive research with a quantitative-qualitative approach carried out in the Family Health Units of a municipality in the interior of Paraíba. The population consisted of 08 nurses who work in these units, of which 100% agree to participate in the research. For data collection, a semi-structured interview script was used, taking into account the ethical precepts contained in resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council. Socio-demographic data were analyzed and statistics were presented in of table, and the data related to the objective of the research were analyzed from the Discourse of the Collective Subject in the light of Lefêvre and Lefêvre. The study results revealed that there is a predominance of female professionals, specialists and who work for a considerable time in the FHS. It was observed that childcare does not form part of the routine activities in the health units studied, as well as for some professionals the term seems to be unknown. When presenting distortions about the theme, the need to reorganize care is perceived, as the divergence in the answers elucidated the limitation of these professionals to carry out childcare consultations, which is probably reproduced in the care provided.
