Resumen:
The work in hospitals institution can determine a lot of aggravating to worker's health, owing
the characteristics of the work's environment. In the present research, the aims are identifying
the main work accident that affects the nursing team in emergency department. Identify the
most used equipments of individual protection (EIP), the condition of vaccination scheme of
the professionals and investigate if the institution offers health education about occupational
safety. Is a descriptive and exploratory study with quantitative approach, it was carried out at
a public hospital from Cajazeiras in the region of the state of Paraiba. Data were collected
through a semi structured questionnaire applied with the professionals that operate in
emergency section. For analysis and discussion of the results, a database was prepared using
descriptive statistics, it was grouped by Microsoft Excel program, version Windows. 7, through
frequency index and percentage. The sample was composed by 43 nurses professionals, of
this 81,4% are the female gender; referring to professional category, 58,14% are professionals
in nursing technicians. Among the subjects 53% said they had suffered some kind of
occupational accidents. The penetrating accidents were the most affected the professionals
(51,5%), after the cutting accidents (24,2%). About the EIP, the laboratory coats, closed shoes
and gloves are de most used, but the use of these equipments can be accord to the procedure.
The vaccination scheme of 88% of the participants is complete and 81% tell that institution
never offered training about occupational safety. Beyond this, 81% professionals consider the
emergency section unhealthy. So, is essential for professionals, education about prevent
occupational accidents and disease. This action, will insure more satisfied and safeties to
professionals during the activities.
