Abstract:
Pregnancy is characterized as a physiological phenomenon and is monitored by a prenatal
consultation. On these ones are performed caring for health promotion of mother-child, which
includes routine exams. The objective of this study was to investigate the knowledge of
pregnant women about routine exams of prenatal, purposes, flow, and resoluteness, through
an exploratory and descriptive study with qualitative approach, contemplating 11 pregnant
women who perform prenatal in a Basic Health Unit in the city of Cajazeiras - PB. The
acquisition of information was done through a semi-structured interview during the period of
October 2011. Data was classified following the technique of content analysis and analyzed
according to the literature relevant to the thematic. The study followed the Resolution 196/96,
which involves research with human subjects. The answers presented that the interviewees
had knowledge about the description of the exams, however, with gaps on the purpose of
these. Regarding the information sources it was identified that the pregnant women limited
themselves to health professionals. It was found that the tests were being offered in
accordance to preconization of the Ministry of Health; and the flow was initiated on the first
prenatal consultation, followed with the marking of the delivery and request for the pregnant
women to attend at the laboratory, posteriorly to the realization the pregnant women presented
results in the subsequent visit. However, some women complained about the delay of this
How. As for the resolubility of the tests it was identified that they were important for
observing and preventing of intercurrences during the gestational cycle, which reinforces the
relevance that they have during the monitoring of prenatal. With these results it is considered
that the prenatal assistance regarding the routine exams are going on satisfactorily, although
there are some limitations subject to adjustments. Therefore, it is suggested that with these
results, the team seeks to elaborate and implement strategies that might minimize the existing
problematic and improve the actions they perform in the Basic Health Unit concerning the
routine examinations of prenatal.
