Resumo:
A hysterectomy involves removing the uterus, body symbolically associated with femininity,
reproduction and vitality. The need for this surgery, arouses anxiety and uneasiness in women,
and submit it to the general risks inherent in any surgery. The nursing care includes educational
aspects, psychosocial and technical, being an important tool in health care of women, within
perspectives that ensure their well-being and overall health. Through this study, we sought to
investigate the nursing care before and after hysterectomy surgery in the Surgical Clinic of the
Hospital Regional Cajazeiras - PB. This is an exploratory, descriptive, quantitative and
qualitative. The subjects consisted of six nurses and 15 nursing staff working in the Surgical
Clinic Women's Hospital Regional Cajazeiras - PB. It was used as an instrument of data
collection semi-structured questionnaire containing objective and subjective questions. The
researchers followed faithfully the ethical observances of Resolution 196/96 of the National
Health Quantitative data were analyzed using the frequency index and percentage, and
qualitative data were presented in tables and discussed in light of the literature concerning the
matter. It was found that the participants are predominantly female and aged 24 to 31 years.
Regarding the time of practice, most said between 1 and 5 years. All (100%) said they had no
training in clinical surgery. In questions related to the theme, it was found the fc Uowing data:
48% performs physical examinations, 38% reported providing information o i myths that
permeate the minds of patients not attending an educational assistance to conplete. It was
found that professionals are knowledgeable about the care on the prevention of complications
after surgery, but not all do (71%). Therefore, it is necessary to implement state policies that
promote training and awareness of the nursing body of the institution for routine application of
interventions that address women's health fully in the pre-and post-operative hysterectomy.
