Resumo:
Reading is an inexhaustible source of knowledge. Its importance and
extreme consecration in the school world providing varied benefits to all those
dedicated to this practice of active reading. The ability to read and of such singular importance in the
someone's life, that their experience in learning to read seals their destiny in relation to
school life. According to the richness of the theme, there was an interest in investigating the
conception of students in relation to the practice of reading at school. To unravel this
I proposed to carry out this monographic work with the objective of identifying the
students' understanding and perception about reading worked in the classroom. In
research that has a qualitative profile, I used as a method, to collect data, the interview
with 5th grade students from the Municipal School of Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education
Vitoria Bezerra, located in the municipality of Cajazeiras - Paraíba. To substantiate this
investigation I took as a reference the texts of Martins (1994), Freire (1994), Zilberman
(1998), Kleiman (1999) among others. At the end of the research, it was found that the majority
of students like to read and do it at school. At school, your reading sources are varied:
in addition to the textbook, they often read magazines, newspapers and outside school
practice reading with a variety of text holders. The conception that students
good reading skills, demonstrates that they know and recognize the benefits of this
activity. The accomplishment of this monograph work came to provide subsidies for a
more effective training and aware of the importance of the teacher in encouraging students to
exercise frequent reading activities.
