The present work sought to understand the factors that trigger the failure and school dropout, in several high school modalities at ECIT IolandaTereza Chaves Lima, in Cubati-PB. Thus, the general objective of this research was to understand the aspects that contribute to these processes, from the motivations of young people and the role of the school. The school environment, vital space for the construction of youth identity, reflects in itself a large part of conflicts present in society: building socialities and socioeconomic, racial and gender inequalities. These end up influence intra and extra-school aspects of the young students surveyed, decisive for failure and subsequent evasion. For authors like Patto (1993, 2015), Peregrino (2010) and Barbosa (2011), school failure, understood here since the student's abandonment /dropout, going through repetition in addition to the absence of meaning in school activities, systematic considered as one of the most traumatic episodes in the relationship between school and the community that supports it. The research started from a qualitative approach quantitative analysis, combining bibliographic survey and documentary research with application of questionnaires and conducting interviews with students, with further analysis of sociodemographic date of the school and subjects of the research, in addition to the life stories of young students. From the date obtained and the discourses learned, it was possible to build four factorial axes: factors related to difficulties in school access as well as other economic, socio-emotional and socio- educational factors. Among these, we can point out as relevant, the rural domicile, the need for insertion labor market, pregnancy / maternity and lack of interest appear as the main reasons cited for abandoning studies.
