Resumen:
In this study, we chose to analyze the work of nurses of the Surgical Center and Maternity
Hospital Regional Cajazeiras because it is a place where those with some experience frequent
cases of infection. The objectives were to verify the preventive measures of hospital infection
carried by the nursing staff to care for the newborn (NB). It is a descriptive observational
study with quanti approach using observation as a technique for data collection. The sample
consisted of 14 nurses from the city of Cajazeiras-PB, between May and June of this year.
The data collection instrument used was a script of observation and a subjective questionnaire
composed of questions regarding socio-demographic profile of study participants. The results
showed the resistance to change of professional related to infection control that are in turn
linked to culture and knowledge. It was also noted that prevention of infection in infants
requiring care for the environment, equipment, and especially the professionals on the
assistance and care provided to them. Through this study, it was noted that to be successful
preventive measures have to be attended by all professionals involved in care, because the
wider knowledge of risk factors, control, and awareness is particularly crucial in order to can
devise strategies to prevent infection.
