Every professional who lives with stressful agents in their work environment with a certain frequency for prolonged periods, is vulnerable to acquiring Burnout Syndrome, which is characterized based on three reference parameters, they are: emotional exhausted, depersonalization and low performance in the job. The act of teaching by itself is already an expressive stressor, in view of the direct contact with many people. This fact becomes even more dangerous when associated with the development of other functions by the teacher. This work aims to preliminarily identify the possibility of burnout syndrome in higher education teachers at a public university in the interior of Paraíba. This is an exploratory study with a quantitative approach. The research was carried out at the Federal University of Campina Grande - UFCG, in the municipality of Cajazeiras - PB. The sample consisted of twenty-five professors chosen at random, exclusively members of the Academic Unit of Life Sciences at UFCG who, respecting resolution 196/96 which deals with research involving human beings, agreed to participate in the research in compliance with ethical principles and to informed consent. To carry out the research, a socio-demographic questionnaire was used containing ten subjective questions and the Jbeili questionnaire for preliminary identification of burnout, which contains twenty objective questions. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and are presented in the form of tables and graphs. "In the sample, there was a predominance of females (60%), aged between 31 and 40 years (52%), married marital status (80%), 60% have children, 96% have only a degree, 48% have specialization as a higher degree, 56% have an average of three years of institution, 56% have a T40-DE contract, in general they have a high number of students under charge, only 8% do not perform other academic activities, it was also observed that no participant is completely free from burnout, considering that 60% may be in the initial phase, 28% have the possibility of developing and in 12% the syndrome may already be starting to set in. None of the participants are in advanced stages of the disease. three reference parameters mentioned above, it was observed that most individuals are exhausted after a monthly workday, have a moderately high degree of involvement, at times they are satisfied in the work environment and at others they are not.
