Childcare, a pediatric area designed to prevent and promote health through monitoring the child's growth and development, being biopsychosocial with skills and potential in development, which therefore needs to be closely monitored. Currently, childcare and developed in USB by through a multiprofessional process, which takes place in partnership with the community, being the main action to promote child health. The nurse of the Family Health team carries out various activities for monitoring in order to promote, prevent and recover the children's health. The aim of this study was to describe how nurses develop childcare actions in the Family Health Strategy in the city of Sousa-PB and to list factors that make childcare feasible and difficult. This is an exploratory-descriptive research with a quantitative and qualitative approach developed in Family Health Units in a municipality in Sousa-PB. The population consisted of 26 nurses who work in the units, of which 100% agreed to participate in the research. Data were collected in the months of April to May 2011, for the collection we used a semi-structured interview script, taking into account the ethical precepts contained in resolution n. 196/96 of the National Health Council. The data related to the characterization of the research participants were analyzed statistically and demonstrated in the form of a table, and the data obtained referring to the reality experienced by nurses in the Family Health Strategy about childcare, were qualitatively based through Thematic Content Analysis (MINAYO, 2000). The results of the study revealed that there is a predominance of female professionals, specialists and who work for a short time in the FHS. It was observed that the childcare consultation is carried out quickly and inappropriately, together with the CHA and is only intended to weigh and measure the children, check the vaccination card and provide guidance on hygiene and food.
