Abstract:
The farming villages have not received an adequate treatment when regarding the
afforestation planning which allows its adequate implantation and maintenance. What has
been observed are experiences which have not passed by special treatment in landscaping.
Therefore, it is necessary the development of research that contribute to both the beauty and
the utility in planning the rural afforestation. For this reason, this study has as aim to
inventory and characterize the afforestation in two farming villages in the semi arid of Paraiba
– Campo Comprido, located in Patos, and Dom Espedito Eduardo de Oliveira, located in
Santa Teresinha, in order to improve the afforestation of both places. At first, 43 people from
the Campo Comprido farming village and 40 from Dom Espedito were interviewed to check
the acceptance of the afforestation proposal. There was a good acceptance in both villages
studied in relation to the afforestation proposal. The inventory was undertaken in the two rural
villages where 3012nindividulas from 53 botany groups were sampled, 110 genera and 153
species (being 130 to specific level). From this total, 28 species are native and 114 are exotic.
The ornamental categories and fruit trees showed higher floristic diversity, with 44 and 35
species, respectively. The tree plantations are concentrated mainly in backyards. The farmers
interviewed have a rich knowledge on plant resources, which means that they can create better
living conditions for the plants. It is fact that the vegetation of the area is able to provide
different resources for the farmers. The use of medical plants is very common and the
planting of agro forestry systems represent a diversification in the production, food supply all
year around and the improvement of the family diet quality. A need to encourage the planting
of native species was observed
