Resumen:
As is known, the knowledge produced by mankind is cumulative and is consolidated through the years. Based on this ruling, the scientific knowledge also experienced this development. Evidently, the experimental and theoretical foundations of electromagnetism were consolidated for many years and by men of prominence in the scientific scenario that contributed greatly to the science of their times. Following the historical chronology can cite Thales of Miletus (VI. a. C), philosopher of nature that was a precursor to the study of electricity. He realized that rubbing amber, the object gained attractiveness. Going to the seventeenth century, that we have William Gilbert, with his work entitled De Magnete, undertook a major effort to study electricity and magnetism, it is very important for further study of the unified cited research fields. In the optical interface, in this period, the prevailing idea was Newtonian, which he considered as having light corpuscular nature, but another proposal arose advocating the same wave design. The unification of electricity and magnetism becomes stronger with Oersted discovered in the nineteenth century that the relationship between electricity, magnetism and electric current. In this aspect of unification must cite Maxwell also belongs to the XLX century. This scientist developed equations that the story took its name. Such equations could associate mathematically electricity, magnetism and optics.
