Resumo:
The lubricating base oils are mineral or synthetic substances responsible for the formation of a
protective film, which prevents direct contact between two surfaces that move relative to each
other. The lubricant mixture is formed by the junction of additives to the base oil obtained from
the distillation of petroleum. Where waste oil are released directly into the environment or when
burned in an uncontrolled way, causing serious soil pollution problems, water and air. Recycling
the lubricant applying means physicochemical processes on the oil used, making possible to
obtain the base oil, the raw material can be reused to obtain lubricants. The aim of this study was
to evaluate the process of recycling of automotive lubricating oils used in diesel engines through
extraction by polar solvent, butan-l-ol. Chemical and physicochemical properties of lubricating
oils as compared with the recycled and new lubricating oil lubricating oils were evaluated. If we
look at the dangers that used oil can cause to the environment, a possible solution to the
difficulties encountered was proposed in this paper.
