The urban forestry provides balance to the modified natural environment. Their study
is an important tool to diagnose the effect of the lack of urban planning and contribute
to the quality of life. This study aimed to diagnose urban tree planting both qualitative
and quantitative way the perception of the population regarding environmental
education in six districts in the city of Patos - PB. The survey was conducted in two
stages: first census took place in forty - two blocks randomly chosen, where the
qualitative and quantitative aspects of tree species present in the neighborhoods were
analyzed: Brasilia, Jatoba, Liberdade, Maternidade, Salgadinho and São Sebastião
from August to December 2013. The parameters analyzed were: data collection, street,
neighborhood, common name, family, species, plant health, problems with root, land
clearance, wiring, diameter, problems with the crowns, total height, height of the first
fork, pruning types made and the origin of species. Secondly, a questionnaire was
applied to assess the perception of the population. These results indicate that 658
trees are trademarks belonging to six botanical families and 14 species, where
Azadirachta indica A. Juss (Neem) accounted for over 70% of individuals. The results
of this research showed that afforestation of neighborhoods has generally been
classified as good, as most trees showed good phytosanitary conditions and that the
investigated population recognizes the importance of urban forestry in the quality of
life and environmental quality of the city.
