This research, entitled Chemical Composition of Fixed umbu oil (Arruda Spondias tuberous)
by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, has as study object the umbu or imbu
which is a result of well-known umbuzeiro tree and appreciated in the Norte e Nordeste do
Brasil, with great potential for industrialization. Its work was to study the chemical
composition fixed oil extracted from the peels, pulp and seeds umbu in two stages of
maturation. The oils were extracted from umbu samples in a Soxhlet extractor, using hexane
as a solvent. The material obtained was subjected to methylation reaction and then the
constituents were identified by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The
methyl esters of the fatty acids identified in the umbu fixed oil samples, such as palmitic acid,
linoleic, trans-13-octadecenoic, and 6-(z)-octadecenoic, are already used in cosmetic products
or used as fabrications excipients in the pharmaceutical industries. The other bioactive
components that have identified with the aid of further studies, they could be inserted in
industries for its reuse. From the found constituents, noted the importance of seed reuse, bark
and other waste processing fruit as a new source of raw material for industries, be they food,
pharmaceutical and cosmetics, as well as minimize the problem residual pollution from
industries.
