Resumen:
Jurema belongs to the Fabaceae family, with importance in semi-arid areas. It is used mainly in the production of firewood, coal and pilings, also the recovery of degraded areas to be a pioneer species. However, water stress, major environmental adversity in semi-arid regions, makes this species present morphological and physiological adaptations, causing her to support a long drought. Therefore, it is necessary to study proteins that act as facilitating the passage of water between the membranes, such as aquaporins. Despite the large amount of data on aquaporins vegetables, nothing is known about these membrane transporters in Jurema. Thus, the identification of genes that control the defense mechanisms and adaptation of this species, the lack of water will be very useful to better management of the species. The field of bioinformatics has various tools that can analyze molecular data, such as genes or proteins and one of them is the BLAST program, which is a search for similar sequences in a public database. Thus, with biotech and bioinformatics techniques we can identify which genes are aquaporins induced water stress, allowing the plant to survive in support Caatinga biome, which spends most of the year in the dry season.
