Resumo:
Scientific research aims to discuss the institute of stable union in Brazil, making a general overview, showing its evolution in the normative scenario, how it was legalized, the requirements for its existence, and especially the effects that generate such a union . It was after the 1988 Constitution that the stable union gained status as a family entity, where the State guaranteed its protection in the legal sphere and the conversion into marriage. The legislator could not remain inert to the countless cases of unmarried unions, with the creation of laws that regulated the de facto union, several effects, obligations, rights and duties arose among the companions. Finally, the debate on the institute of the stable union and on the laws that were created to regulate the de facto union, with the aim of filling in the gaps in the law, as well as broadening the knowledge of the legal operators so that they can resolve possible legal disputes that involve uniting people outside of marriage.
