Abstract:
Capital structure is a still complex subject in finance theory. Several studies and theories have
already been developed on the subject. The present research had the objective to investigate
the perception of the managers of micro and small companies installed in Sousa/PB, on the
capital structure, considering their relationship with the bank and its sources of financing. The
data were collected through a questionnaire composed of 24 questions. Twenty - one
companies associated to the Chamber of Store Owners (CDL - Sousa/PB) were surveyed.
Most companies started their business from the 1990s, most business owners considered their
business to be profitable in all three years, they said that in recent years their respective profits
have declined a little, claiming that their participation in the increased slightly and are
expected to remain equal to the market average. Entrepreneurs claim to have no difficulty in
obtaining financing which in turn the main sources of financing of most companies are,
respectively, bank loans, retained earnings and accounts payable.
