Resumo:
The process of mindfulness is defined as a mental state that consists in being fully aware of what is happening in the present moment, observing the thoughts, feelings and physical sensations with a posture of acceptance, curiosity and receptivity, without making criticisms or judgments. Objective: The purpose of this study is to analyze a clinical case attended in the Clinical Psychology School of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), in which the main therapeutic resource used was the mindfulness method. Methodology: Case study of a female patient, 33 years old, single, complete high school, submitted to 22 sessions of psychotherapy. The treatment plan was composed of the techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness exercises, in addition to instruments such as the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) that were used for patient’s psychological evaluation. Study results: The Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) was effective in the treatment of stress and anxiety, the patient reached the therapeutic goals, there was complete remission of the psychosomatic symptoms, as well as reduced levels of stress and anxiety. Furthermore, the patient developed a new way of relating to her inner experiences in the present moment, which reduced her tendency to identify with distorted thoughts.
