Abstract:
The work has as its central theme the exploratory study of the perception of society about the Civil Police, through the comparative analysis of data from official surveys and reports. The relevance of this issue falls on the strong concern about the growth of violence, which has its most serious manifestation consubstantiated in criminality. The study starts from the constructivist conception of the concept of perception, through the application of the model developed by PENNA (1982), through the most diverse approaches, besides the theoretical appreciation of the concepts of beliefs, identity processes of "in" and "out-groups" state coercion, society and democracy, considering them necessary to the research in screen. Aware of the individual's idiosyncrasy and the existence of a mental construct, which brings with it the subject's own cognition, accompanied by their beliefs, experiences and histories, this construct points to the existence of symmetries between the population's expectations and their perception, despite to present some dissonance in relation to some variables, which do not invalidate the assertion that the Civil Police is at a level of reasonableness, with respect to its perception from the point of view of society.
